All trips are private and operate under BLM-issued Special Recreation Permits.
Trip Overview
Start your trip set up, fed, and fully oriented
The first day of a through-hike in Aravaipa is often the most complicated—long drives, trailhead coordination, and uncertainty around route, campsites, and conditions.
This option removes that entire layer.
You’re met at the trailhead, shuttled across the canyon, and brought to a fully set camp in Turkey Creek. From there, the focus shifts: you eat well, walk the landscape, and plan the route with guides who know the canyon in detail.
By the time you enter the wilderness the next morning, you’re not figuring things out as you go—you already understand the route, the terrain, and how to approach the days ahead.
Itinerary
Day 1
Shuttle from West to East, and Camp at Turkey Creek
- Meet at the West trailhead and shuttle to the East side
- Arrive at a fully set camp in Turkey Creek
- Arrival snack at camp
- Guided walk through the surrounding canyon (including Oak Grove Canyon)
- Route planning session: campsites, pacing, water, and key decision points
- Safety and movement briefing specific to current conditions
- Gourmet dinner prepared at camp
Day 2
Breakfast and Aravaipa Start
- Breakfast at camp
- Final route check and timing adjustments
- Early drop-off at the Aravaipa East trailhead
- Begin your through-hike with a clear, fully informed plan

About Turkey Creek
Turkey Creek sits just outside the Aravaipa Wilderness boundary and is often overlooked—but it’s a beautiful canyon in its own right.
Your camp is set in one of the most scenic sections, with oak groves and access to a cliff dwelling and to side canyon terrain.
The evening includes a guided walk through the area, offering a first look at the landscape you’ll be moving through—and a chance to ask questions, observe, and get oriented in a lower-pressure setting before the hike begins.

Permits
Permits are required for all travel in Aravaipa Canyon.
- For shuttle-only trips, you are responsible for securing your own permits.

Vehicle & Access
Access to the canyon isn’t always straightforward.
We operate a high-clearance 4WD vehicle equipped for rough and variable road conditions, including water crossings and post-storm terrain.
This allows for more reliable access to both trailheads and reduces the risk of delays or complications on the day of your shuttle.
How the shuttle logistics work
Shuttle routes in Aravaipa are more involved than they appear on a map.
While the trailhead-to-trailhead drive is roughly 3.5 hours, the full route typically includes:
- We travel from Tucson to the trailhead to meet your group
- The cross-canyon drive between trailheads
- We return back to Tucson after drop-off
In total, most shuttle days involve 9–10 hours of driving on our end, often on remote roads with variable conditions.
